Us

New Media Art Club (NMAC) is a community interest company started in 2023 to better the opportunities for Leicester new media artists to learn new skills and exhibit their work. It is a formalised evolution of the practice of Sean Carroll and Anoushka Carroll; two local artist-producers.

NMAC aims to facilitate workshops, exhibitions, networking and employment opportunities for Leicester new media artists.

NMAC also facilitates a "co-working studio lab" (CoLab) to realise the above goals.

In the present times of continuously scrolling feeds of adverts and fomo, we must remember that the internet can do more. Let's make websites that are artworks; that are useless; that are playful.

We'll explore examples of the old web and more recent works and use them alongside in-workshop discussion to create your own browser based artwork

You will not need to know anything about code going in. This won't be a deep dive into web development. It will be informal and hopefully fun.

You will learn just enough to:
-Give a webpage a structure: headings, paragraphs, images, links (HTML).
-Make it look how you want: colours, fonts, layout, maybe some blinking and wiggling (CSS).
-Make it respond to you: things that change when you click, hover, or move your cursor around (Javascript)

The Computer Arts Archive Community Interest Company (CIC) has been building a significant collection of computer art since 2001, focusing on "undertold" narratives in the history of computer and digital art. From their base in Leicester, UK, they have been producing exhibitions and events, such as the recent Sue Gollifer show at Phoenix, Leicester. @phoenixleic

They'e had some funding (HLF and Paul Mellon), but much of their work is self-supported. They're now exploring alternative fundraising routes - starting with their first crowdfunding campaign on Space Hive. @spacehive

They're looking for support for their latest "Leicester Computer Artists" exhibition and catalogue. This builds on a previous project in which they documented the work of eight significant artists with a connection to Leicester. The project is being noticed, and the Leicester City Mayor has agreed to match any contributions made, up to £1000 (which means £50 becomes £100, and so on!).

Join us for a listening party presenting Conversation Two: Letters and Recordings, a newly completed audio work by artist Sarah Sweeney.

The work uses letters, cassette recordings, and AI voice-cloning to construct a conversation between Sweeney and a synthetic version of her late father’s voice.

No prior experience is necessary, but this workshop would be ideal for anyone with an artistic practice involving:

-music technology
-hardware hacking
-interactive installations.

The work will be based around previous interactive exhibits Mark has presented for @ableton at @superbooth_berlin and will be collaboratively built during the day as part of the Robots for a Safer World Exhibition during COMPUTALA 2026.
